FUNCTIONAL MOVEMENT SCREEN

The Functional Movement Screen (FMS) is a tool for standardized movement screening to see how an individual, no matter their age or fitness level, is moving in everyday life. It takes into account both mobility and stability and equips a Certified Personal Trainer carrying out the screen with the information necessary to make programming recommendations with precision and purpose. The FMS identifies;

  • movement patterns that the patient moves well in;

  • movement patterns that can be developed or loaded; and

  • movement patterns that are not ideal and need to be protected and corrected.

By the end of the FMS, the Certified Personal Trainer, Provider, and Patient will all gain valuable information for that individual to specifically understand their needs to foster an environment to meet their goals, enhance quality of life, and support overall health and wellbeing.

WHAT PATIENTS CAN EXPECT

From start to finish, the FMS is a 30-minute session. Upon arriving at Ghent Fit Norfolk, patients will briefly review their health needs, goals, pain points, and obstacles with the Certified Personal Trainer that will be screening them. The screen itself takes approximately 10-15 minutes, and will involve 5 simple assessments:

  1. Overhead deep squat

  2. Shoulder mobility

  3. Active straight leg raise

  4. Trunk stability push-up

  5. Rotary stability quadruped

After completing the screen, the Patient and trainer will review the findings and initial recommendations. Following the session, FMS reports will be sent over to DCC via email.
